SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2014 | MassTransitmag.com | Mass Transit | 45 Vanessa Rauschenberger Planning Manager Gold Coast Transit District VANESSA RAUSCHEN- BERGER is the planning manager at Gold Coast Transit District and has more than 10 years of professional experience in the transportation and transit industry. Growing up in Oxnard, California, Rauschen- berger knew she wanted to be- come an artist or an architect. It was during the pursuit of her degree in city and regional plan- ning, however, that she discov- ered her passion was in planning. In 2001 Rauschenberger moved to New York City to complete her master's in urban planning, during which she worked for the Brooklyn Center for Urban Environment where she taught students about how construction of major infra- structure transform the city. From 2004 to 2009 she worked as an associate planner/project manager for the NYC Department of Transportation, working on numerous "complete street" re-designs and man- aging the city's safe routes to schools program. In 2009, Rauschenberger moved back to Ox- nard hoping to improve transportation options in her hometown. She began working for Gold Coast Transit District (GCTD) in 2010 frst as a consul- tant/volunteer on the Vineyard Avenue Commu - nity Transit Plan and was soon hired as a transit planner. She's responsible for man- aging fxed-route service plan- ning. She provides leadership and project management skills, while ensuring successful im- plementation of transit technol- ogy projects. She developed a set of fxed-route service planning standards and guidelines for the agency that won unanimous board support and continues to lead agency-wide eforts to bring innovative changes into fruition.
