Smart Senior Transit Planner Aecom BRIAN SMART began his career in 2006, as a planner at a mid-sized frm based in Atlanta, Georgia, where he provided support for local transportation projects, including multi-use trails and bike lanes in Gwinnett County and last- mile connectivity projects near some of the Atlanta region's most heavily used transit stops. Te following year, Smart entered graduate school at Georgia Tech where he began working on his master's degree in city and regional planning. In the summer of 2008, Smart worked as an intern at the Georgia Department of Trans- portation, where he supported planning staf in the delivery of Georgia's transportation en- hancement program. During his second and fnal year in the city and regional plan- ning program, he was elected president of Georgia Tech's Student Planning Association and was also selected as Best All Around Student by the faculty of the school of city and regional planning. Afer graduation Smart transitioned into a project manager role continuing to work on local transportation projects and providing technical sup- port for the alternatives analysis for GDOT's Atlanta to Chattanooga High Speed Ground Transportation Study. In 2010 he accepted a two-year appointment position as an environmental protection specialist with the Federal Transit Admin- istration and provided support to transit providers and managed environmental review processes for projects across the southeast- ern U.S. and Puerto Rico. Smart is a senior transit plan - ner and the National Environ- mental Policy Act (NEPA) lead for Aecom's southeast region transit planning practice. Experi- ences include managing the envi- ronmental review process for the Georgia Multimodal Passenger Terminal (MMPT) in downtown Atlanta, Atlanta Streetcar, Atlanta BeltLine, Fort Lau- derdale Streetcar, Central Florida Commuter Rail/ SunRail in Orlando, Lynx Blue Line Extension, Char- lotte Streetcar, Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit, and the Jacksonville Transit Authority's bus rapid transit corridors in Jacksonville, Florida. www.MassTransitmag.com/11617570 AECOM congratulates www.aecom.com Based in our Atlanta office, Brian is the deputy project manager for the Atlanta BeltLine East Streetcar project and the Atlanta Streetcar North Avenue and Luckie Street extensions.
