RTA is working to provide both pas- sengers and operators with a safe, quiet and dependable ride. RTA plans to test the prototypes initially on three routes and eventually expanding to others to analyze the of-wire capacity of the units. Throughout the test period data will be gathered and compared to RTA's existing trolleybus and well as diesel and hybrid feets. www.MassTransitmag.com/12031146 Omnitrans Introduces Veteran Discount Fare ▶ In appreciation for the contributions of those who have served in our nation's armed forces, Omnitrans introduced a discount fare for U.S. military veterans. The veteran fare provides a 50 per- cent discount on fxed-route bus fares and passes to U.S. retired military per- sonnel with ID. Additionally, Omnitrans introduced free rides for uniformed active-duty military members, police and frefghters. www.MassTransitmag.com/12033489 BART Plans Richmond Station Improvements Te BART Board of Directors award- ed a contract Jan. 8 to reconstruct and make safety improvements to the area outside the Richmond Sta- tion where buses, taxis, and cars drop of and picked up riders. Te $2.7 million project will mod - ernize the existing lot on the west side of the station and provide for a safer and more functional multi-modal transit hub with sustainable features like energy efcient LED lighting and drought resistant landscaping. www.MassTransitmag.com/12033024 BART WILL spend $2.7 million to upgrade the Richmond station as part of the agency's modernization plans. Orange County Transportation Authority Irvine Mayor Pro Tem Jefrey Lalloway was selected as the new chair- man of the Orange County Transportation Authority Board of Directors. Lalloway served as the OCTA board's vice chair- man for the last year, re- placing outgoing Chairman Shawn Nelson. Lalloway has served on the Irvine City Council since Decem- ber 2010 and on the OCTA board since January 2013. www.MassTransitmag. com/12034039 LTK Engineering Services Natalie E. Cornell has assumed the role of director of business development in LTK Engineering Services' Ambler, Pennsylvania, headquarters. Prior to joining the com- pany, Cornell managed a division of Lecip Inc. Tom Gill was named pres- ident of Seon Design Inc., replacing Terry Akiyama. Akiyama has decided to retire as president but will transition to a new role as chairman to provide continued guidance and leadership. Gill was hired as chief operating ofcer in 2009. Dingell Transit Center Opens in Dearborn ▶ The city of Dearborn's intermodal pas- senger rail station was dedicated in honor of retiring U.S. Congressman John Dingell. The city-owned transit center replac- es a smaller station erected by Amtrak on city property in 1979. The station was fully funded by $28.2 million from the federal American Recov- ery and Reinvestment Act.
